  • Great gay-friendly bar serving all manner of refreshments, alcoholic and non. Try the local London-brewed Caribbean (pineapple-grapefruit) flavoured ale. Truly marvellous.

  • A delightful place to have a drink and put the world to rights. Good beer and great staff. Decor is quirky, with a good feel about it. A chilled venue, certainly worth a visit.

Our pub wouldn’t be anything without you lovely lot and as you can tell below some of them take some rather good photos… don’t look too far, some of them take some awful ones too. Here’s a selection of snaps to give you a glimpse of what you could be missing out on taken by our wonderful community.

What a great shot of a Bethnal Green favourite, Star of Bethnal Green by gotothelocal 🍻 Dry January is over, and we are happy to enjoy the many historic and storied pubs in our area. But did you know we are also living in an up-and-coming area for beer brewing? We spoke to the masterminds behind East London Brewery Co., one of the biggest breweries to come out of East London since Truman’s. Click the link in our to read more about East London’s beer boom.
If the cap fits: a celebration of snapbacks - at Bastard Batty Bass, 2009
I loved everything about Bastard Batty Bass (at the Star of Bethnal Green, September 2009), from the name and the fierce musical mix to the totally ambisexual crowd and the way they dressed and expressed themselves. I’d previously written Ten Reasons Why BBB Is The Best Club in London in Time Out too. Is this the best photo of the night? I’ve got plenty more dramatic shots but I took half a dozen snaps of this couple (after that I left them alone!) because I liked the way they wore and danced together.
Vibrant illustrations hung up greenwichmarket today.

It must be the first bank holiday weekend where we aren't throwing a huge party to celebrate. We've still got great beer, delicious food and good vibes... We'd love to see ya 🍻🙌

Hannah Holland DJ, producer, musician, label boss :

Around 2003 I had just started DJing and was playing at Zigfrids regularly, then became resident at Trailer Trash (Matt Tucker & Dan Pope’s club, who went onto start Dalston Superstore with Dan Beaumont), at the former venue On The Rocks on Kingsland Rd, which became one of the areas biggest nights at the time, every friday 2004 - 2009 . It marked an era of electro, techno tinged raves, off grid parties in railway arches, basements and lofts, as well as the Great Eastern Hotel holding some really amazing events + Jonny Woo's emerging underground drag scene and lots of looks! A mad, hedonistic time, I met the most incredible characters, life long friends and collaborators and went onto start my own night, Batty Bass, alongside singer MAMA and artist Alex Noble, which was held at various venues including Old Blue Last, Under Da Bridge, Dove Bridge Studios then finally claimed its home at The Star Of Bethnal Green and various warehouses until 2015 ish. Batty Bass turned into a record label working with artists from New York, London and Berlin.
